Great album! I was a huge fan of the Guardians movie and the soundtrack was a big component of that. And this is exactly what I expected... the music that I loved in the movie. Now its time to get Vol 2....

This is a fun item. The cassette itself has a bit of a mass produced feel with the label. It still looks fantastic sitting inside the tape deck. This is a type 1 ferrite tape. With that in mind, the audio is acceptable. I think perhaps the master was over driven a tad as the bass tends to distort. This isn't about sound quality though. We have digital for that. They even include a link and code to download the entire mix digitally.In my case, however, the link was to an extremely slow loading Disney online music store that prompts you for the super secret special code. I entered the code and it thought for a while and failed. It brought up a random error type page. I think their website has issues. I tried to do it again and it gave me a "Already used or limit reached" error. So I get had on the digital copy. That cost a star. The over driven master will take another. Overall, I'd still buy it if I knew of these issues beforehand. So just buy it. It's too cool!
If like me, you enjoyed the movie and really enjoyed the soundtrack this tape is a great novelty. The packaging is cool and having a new release album on cassette is just plain fun. But PLEASE do not buy this expecting any kind of good quality sound and do not blame the cassette format if you do. Cassettes, properly mastered can sound very good but this compilation was produced as a perfect example of the Loudness Wars. I just downloaded the digital MP3s and they are also horrible. At 320kbps you can have decent dynamic range but these songs all all maxed out to full volume. It's too bad really but then again these hits can be heard on many formats so I'm sure you can find a good master recording somewhere. So enjoy the fun of a new cassette but leave it at that.
I like this soundtrack even more than vol. 2. These songs take me back to my childhood with classic hits like Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede, I'm Not in Love by 10cc, Escape by Rupert Holmes, Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum, and a few more. I like the humorous yet appropriate approach in offering this soundtrack/collection in cassette tape form. VERY era appropriate. Classic rock that stands the test of time from a movie that appeals to all ages of science fiction fans.
The music on Awesome Mix Vol 1 is fantastic. It just is. "I Fooled Around (and Fell In Love)"; "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)", and "Cherry Bomb" are all songs that have stood the test of time. Most of the soundtrack is full of toe-tapping goodness and earwig galore. But, that's not what makes this a great soundtrack. It just sweetens the deal. No, what makes this a great soundtrack is that it is as pivotal the plot as Peter Quill himself. It almost becomes another character. The characters interact and react to the soundtrack instead of being something in the back ground. From the moment you hear "Come and Get Your Love", you know you're just going to have a good time in this movie. "Oooh Child" will make you laugh out loud. "I'm Not In Love" is one only coldest of hearts won't get emotional to. As the credits start to roll, "I Just Want You Back" dances it's way into your heart, knowing full well you fell head over heels for the movie, the characters...and the soundtrack. A must buy.
It really is an awesome mix! I loved the movie, I love the songs, this is simply a fantastic collection of hits. My kids love listening to it in the car. The sound quality and detail is quite good. Whomever did the remixing of the songs did a decent job with the equalization. I love "Spirit in the Sky", it has the 'fat' tube burbling sound that makes you love the over drive from a tub amplifier. And of course there's "Come and Get Your Love" which is from the opening scene in the movie. There isn't a dude in the mix.
Great Cd. I really enjoy the tunes from the movie, great item to complement my guardians of the galaxy movie. Great cd if you are a fan of the movie or if you are looking for a good mix of oldies.
