Good book on a culture I wasn’t fully familiar with, a story of cool myths and legends. Worth a look
When I was in school, we had to study Greek and Roman mythology. We never studied Inca myths, much less their history. So that made me interested in the book. I really liked the book. Each myth was proceeded by a little history which helped to place the myths in context. So I was effortlessly learning both the some history and myths of a whole civilization that I never studied in school. My headline about it being a small world refers to the fact that except for the names and places, these myths could have been Roman or Greek. Many of the attributes of humans and gods, such as greed, charity, peace, love, violence, jealousy, and contrition are addressed in the Inca myths just like in the Greek or Roman myths. I enjoyed this book very much. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that it lacked a pronunciation guide which would have been very helpful. Other than that, I am looking forward to reading some of the mythologies of other cultures of which I am lacking.

They provide sufficient detail about a topic to allow me to decide if I want to explore further. I knew nothing about Inca Mythology before this overview - except sadly what I've seen misused on TV. I now feel I have a baseline from which to build on.Interestingly, Inca mythology has characters you will recognize if you read other mythologies including tricksters, harvest gods, and others. So even though the names were different, there was a sense of familiarity.There is an excellent bibliography included that will provide many more hours of reading and exploration.
It is an excellent book. I have read a lot of mythology from various civilizations but this was very different than Greek, Roman or Near East mythology. Also, knowing that the Inca empire didn't last that long before falling to the Spaniards made it even more intriguing. Mostly, everything occurs in the Andes mountains and also Lake Titicaca is sacred and animals talk. One god is five gods but all the stories are very different and just fascinating to read about. It is an excellent introduction to mythology.

This book explains how the Incas believed that the world was created as well as explaining who their gods and goddesses were. I found this book to be an interesting and informative read, considering I really didn't know that much about this old culture as it was. That is why I found this book to be very informative.
Fascinating mythology. Found a lot of stories that had biblical references. Very well organized and easy to read. Straight forward information without getting bogged down. Plan on visiting Peru soon and will use this as a reference to the ancient sites.
Interesting view about the Incans and their beliefs. This book was very informative and I learned much about this ancient civilization. I highly recommend this book!
