Review

“I have had the privilege of personally knowing Jen Wilkin for several years. She is a woman intoxicated by the God of the Bible and has written None Like Him by staring at his majesty. The soul is healed not by gazing at its broken pieces, but by gazing at the beauty of its creator and surrendering to the ‘I can’ts, but he cans.’ I pray you melt into the relief of belonging to the One who is unlike any other as you read this book.”―Matt Chandler, Lead Pastor, The Village Church, Dallas, Texas; President, Acts 29 Church Planting Network; author, The Mingling of Souls and The Explicit Gospel “In an upside-down world that has humanized God and deified man, Jen Wilkin brings us the best news imaginable: our God is infinitely greater, more powerful, more majestic, and more wonderful than we can possibly fathom. Jen calls us to lift our eyes upward, to earnestly contemplate his attributes, and to humbly acknowledge our own limits. As we do, our hearts will be filled with wonder and awe that such a God should stoop to save and love us.”―Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, author, Adorned; Teacher and Host, Revive Our Hearts“My wife and I love Jen Wilkin. She represents a rising generation of evangelical women discontent with the status quo, yet fiercely committed to the Scriptures. Her teaching is provocative without approaching compromise, revolutionary without seeking novelty. This book is rock solid, and it portends an encouraging future for evangelicalism.”―J. D. Greear, author, Not God Enough; President, Southern Baptist Convention; Pastor, The Summit Church, Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina“Far beyond a Sunday school lesson listing the attributes of God, None Like Him evokes a sense of both familiarity and wonder around the characteristics of the Almighty we worship. This book puts us in our place, beneath the God of all and over all.”―Kate Shellnutt, Associate Editor, Christianity Today; Editor, Her.meneutics   “This book made me want Jen Wilkin as my best friend. But far more than that, it made me grateful that Jen Wilkin’s God is my God. Books that are this theologically rich while also being this funny, this personal, and this penetrating are rare. So don’t miss this one.”―Nancy Guthrie, author, Even Better than Eden: Nine Ways the Bible’s Story Changes Everything about Your Story"As [Wilkin] compares human flaws and weaknesses with God's steady and unchangeable characteristics, readers of faith will be reinvigorated by the assurance of God's unvarying, all-encompassing nature."―Publishers Weekly“What happens when women learn about the attributes of God? They rightfully praise him for who he is! Jen Wilkin has written a helpful book introducing the attributes that belong to God alone, while revealing our own tendencies to try to produce counterfeits in others or ourselves. A better understanding of who God is builds our faith and helps to guard against damaging theology. Jen presses the reader to see how God’s incommunicable attributes affect our own spirituality.” ―Aimee Byrd, author, Why Can’t We Be Friends? and No Little Women“Many of us attribute to God the characteristics of our fallen earthly fathers. In this study, Jen walks us through a better foundation for knowing and relating to our Father in heaven―Scripture itself. None Like Him is a helpful resource that reminds us that ‘the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.’”―Wendy Horger Alsup, mother; author, Practical Theology for Women and The Gospel-Centered Woman“This wonderful book is big on truth and big on God, which means it is very good for my soul. Jen’s exploration of God’s attributes and her reminder of all the ways I’m not God and don’t have to be God ministered to me as a wife, as a mother, and as a Christian. If true wisdom starts with the knowledge of God and the knowledge of ourselves, then here is a book full of wisdom.” ―Trisha DeYoung, happy wife to Kevin DeYoung, author of Just Do Something and Crazy Busy; stay-at-home adventurous mother of six“Many of us believe that greater peace and self-awareness come from exploring our own psyche or learning what makes us tick. But Jen Wilkin believes that greater self-knowledge comes from knowing and reverencing the One who is knowledge himself. In None Like Him, she invites us to learn how God’s nature transcends our own and why the difference between us is good news. In fact, it’s the very best news.”―Hannah Anderson, author, Made for More and Humble Roots“In my ministry to college students, I am rarely asked questions about morality or theology. They ask for wisdom. Young people yearn to know how the world works and how to work well within it. Jen sets us on the right path by inviting us all to the essential starting point: awestruck wonder at our Maker. We must see how the eternal connects with the mundane if our lives are going to be filled with a sense of meaning. This is a resource that I would love to see in the hands of all of our students.”―Ben Stuart, Executive Director, Breakaway Ministries

In my opinion, Jen Wilkin is one of the most important teachers of our time. In a time where Christian resources and a plethora of ideas abound, we need solid exposition and teaching, and Jen Wilkin is that. If she is anything, she is faithful to the Word of God. Her materials do not reek of fluff and silly alliteration or other literary devices. In contrast, her illustrations are meaningful and relatable, bringing depth and context to the point at hand. Wilkin is at once profound yet accessible. After working through Tozer, Grudem, and Pink in studying God's character and attributes, her book is a welcome change, well organized and easily grasped.Readers should know that this book is a study of the 10 Incommunicable Attributes of God (attributes true only of Him) whereas her new release, "In His Image" is a study of his communicable attributes (attributes true of God and of the believer). Early on in this book she provides a list of both of these. His incommunicable attributes that are discussed in this book are:1. Infinite2. Incomprehensible3. Self-Existent4. Self-Sufficient5. Eternal6. Immutable7. Omnipresent8. Omniscient9. Omnipotent10. SovereignEach chapter is followed with verses for meditation and questions to journal through. Could easily be used for a book club and/or women's study. I'm using it as a resource to develop materials for our upcoming women's retreat at church. Cannot recommend it highly enough.

Love Love Love!!! It's about time a woman Christian author cut out the crap and give us the true God of the Bible. This book is easy to read but hard to digest...it is convicting as we look at God for who He is, not who we want Him to be. Jen Wilkin is a true student of God's word and her heart is for women to take God at His word and to be transformed by it.

This book has changed my view of God, but mostly it's changed my view of myself. My God is LIMITLESS but I'm limited. He is ALL in ALL and I'm nothing apart from Him.I plan to use this book as the basis for a Women's Bible Study in the near future. That's how good it is. I want all my friends to read it and experience the change.

This book is important. Not because Jen Wilkin wrote it, not because the front cover is appropriately attractive, and not because it carries endorsements from all the right modern Christian leaders. Nope, this book is important because reading it will totally make you FALL IN LOVE WITH GOD. If you love Him already, read this book and LOVE Him more. None Like Him doesn't contain any magic formula; the book simply organizes and illustrates, in lovely-to-discover language, 10 of the Lord's majestic characteristics.I recently led a group of 35+ women in weekly meetings as we prepared for an intense weekend of disciplining other women. At each weekly meeting, I prepared a devotional highlighting one of the characteristics, using Jen's book as a guide. By focusing on and dwelling in God's incredible awesomeness, our team was much better prepared to love, serve and disciple wounded women. I will go back to this book again and again to remind myself why I need my Father God, and why He deserves my love, awe and reverence.

Short review - great book! Read it! Longer version - Wilkin does an excellent job of showing the greatness of God and comparatively, our own insignificance. Though my pride took a few shots, my self-esteem did not as I was comforted by the greatness and graciousness of God and His love for me. I read this book with a friend who has limited Bible knowledge and we both learned amazing things. The depth is not so deep as to be over the head of new believers or seekers. The cover may have pink flowers on a teal background, written from a woman's POV, but men will benefit from reading it, as well. Wilkin's writing style is easy to read, with pertinent and practical examples to which readers can relate. The chapter questions were deep but not overwhelming. In addition, each chapter asked the reader to write a prayer regarding that chapter's subject. Don't skip this! It was when writing these prayers that my own misconceptions or sin was revealed, leading to a deeper knowledge of and relationship with God. I can't recommend this book enough!

If you are ever in a slump in your relationship with God, read this book. It really is all about Him. I love that this book with its insightful questions and prayer suggestions helped me to see Him in the proper perspective. It's interesting and informative without being dull and dry. However, like any Christian book you read, IMO, if the author's understanding of scripture has "evolved" to a more liberal worldview their writings start to reflect that. Always interpret scripture with scripture, my Pastor says.

This was my first time reading anything by this author so I was curious. The theme of the study book and the chapter headings had me eager and ready for some thought-provoking reading and a chance to further study a subject that will always pull me in- The character of God.Wilkin's writing style and careful inclusion of theology and Scripture were well-done. It was easy reading on one level, but challenged the reader to meditate and consider, pray and study more on another level. I chose to spend a great deal of time on and between each chapter including doing the study questions, further meditation reading, and prayer journaling along with the chapters. I enjoyed pursuing further study on each chapter. The introduction and wrap-up chapters were great, giving me a direction at the beginning and an overview to remind me where I'd been while pulling it all together for me.I highly recommend this book and study to deepen Spiritual walk and knowledge. It's for everyone and makes a good group read-study manual.
